Depressing night for Boston sports fans

Three strikes and we're down and out. Sometimes life's not easy as a Boston sports fan...

Strike 1: Red Sox lose 5 - 4 in extra innings, falling to the Los Angeles Angels for the second straight time.  We had our chances, but when someone like Big Papi goes 0 for 7 leaving 12 men on base, things look bleak. 

I know it is still early in the season, but they need to get healthy. We can't be without key players like Dice-K, Youkilis, and Pedroia and expect to be in contention. And the guys that are healthy need to step up their game in a big way. I mean, Papi going 0 for 7?!? For real?!? He needs to start producing in the way he is capable of. And the pitching...there has been no consistency. Until we have some consistent pitching opposing teams will continue to outplay us. Unfortunately, I think these next few games will still be tough as the Sox are notorious for not playing well on the West Coast.

Strike 2: The Celtics fall to the Orlando Magic in Game 6. I can't really comment too much on the specifics of the game as I chose to watch the Bruins since they were in Game 7 of their series, but from what I saw in the highlights they were leading for most of the game but could not close the deal in the 4th quarter. It has seemed like their big guys get in to foul trouble late in the game and that is when things start to change. The key for them to win Game 7 is for their big guys to stay on the court and off the bench.

Strike 3: Bruins are out. This was probably the toughest loss of the night for Boston sports fans. The B's took an early 1 - 0 lead in the first period but could not seem to feed off the crowd's enthusiasm and the Hurricanes eventually tied the score. Then the Hurricanes managed to pull ahead 2 - 1 midway through the second period. The B's eventually rallied to tie the score at 2 and the hopes of Boston sports fans everywhere began to rise. All season people have speculated that this could be THE year for the B's. They certainly showed the promise and they played hard and played with heart. The end of regulation came with the game still tied. Both teams fought hard in overtime but sadly the Hurricanes put one in the net with just a little over a minute left in OT, breaking the hearts of B's fans everywhere.

I think my best bet right now is my nephew's t-ball team.......

If mowing lawn were a sport...

I would kick ass!!! Because it seems like that is all I do! I have every intention of getting back here with some comments on last night's games but my wife and I have barely had a moment to sit down today. I only have a few minutes before we head out to our nephew's t-ball game so pro sports talk will have to wait a little longer. Hopefully tonight. All I gotta say right now is it is a good thing the Red Sox won last night because the Bruins and the Celtics are killing me.

A first

Somehow, my wife has convinced me to start a blog. So here I am to give it a go. She knows me better than anyone and knows the only way I will keep up with this is if it is all about a subject I am passionate about, and for me, that is sports. So I might as well just jump right in.

I have a few plans for this blog. I plan to share my thoughts about games. With the warmer weather here I will be doing a lot of golfing so I will talk about that. I am also involved in a few fantasy baseball leagues and that topic will also be covered here. When trades and drafts take place,  I will have something to say. And when there are scandals in the sports world...my wife will probably make me talk about it!

Of course I have to comment on the 50 game suspension of Manny Ramirez. What the heck is wrong with these guys? They are living a life most people can only dream of, playing a game for a living (an over the top living), and they risk throwing it all away on steroids! Besides the health risks involved with steroid use and the fact that it is ILLEGAL, it is just disgusting that kids actually look up to these guys. What kind of message is that sending? I know it is not their job to be "role models" and all that, but, like it or not, they chose a profession that puts them right in the public eye. Use your status for good, man.

On TV tonight...a lot of flipping channels. The B's, the C's, and the Sox all play tonight. Currently the Bruins are trailing in their play-off series 2 games to 1. The Celtics v. Magic series is tied at one game each. And the Sox take on the Rays at Fenway. I will be back tomorrow with my thoughts on tonight's match-ups.
